Whitney to try her luck in ChinaWhitney Houston hasn't done much actual performing in North America over the last few years ?despite her name constantly popping up in the press? so the singer has decided to try her luck in another part of the world. Houston is the latest in a string of performers who is scheduled to play in China.

According to the Associated Press, Houston will perform in Shanghai on July 22. Apparently, her version of Dolly Parton's classic "I Will Always Love You" was a huge hit in Asia (and, quite obviously, everywhere else in the world) and the Chinese fans, who are still relatively new to the superstar concert experience, are clamouring to see the troubled woman with the big, big voice.

Houston is still reportedly undergoing treatment for an undisclosed drug addiction. She entered a rehab clinic in March but quickly checked herself out, claiming that she'd rather receive treatment on a private basis.

Whitney Houston's last album was 2002's relatively disastrous Just Whitney, which was released just a few days after Houston's famed "Crack Is Whack" interview with Diane Sawyer. Is the China show a sign of a full-on post-rehab comeback? For Whitney's sake, here's hopin'.

China has turned into a concert hotspot in recent years with Mariah Carey and Deep Purple already having played Shanghai and Britney Spears planning to visit the country (barring any complications with her injured knee). The first Canadian band to hit the Chinese market was Wide Mouth Mason, who traveled to the country in 2002. By Divine Right followed WMM's lead and cracked the Chinese market last December.
