Will Whitney Do Britney?
Access Hollywood Interview
Sep. 22, 2004

Whitney Houston returned with a bang, gracing the Las Vegas stage at the World Music Awards. Moments after that knockout performance, Access Hollywood's Billy Bush went backstage with Whitney and the man who launched her career -- record mogul Clive Davis.

Billy had the pleasure of going back in time with one of the "greatest" voices in the music industry.

"What is your favorite Whitney Houston song?" asked Billy.

"Probably, 'The Greatest Love of All.' That's where I started. That's where we [motioning to Clive] met. You know, it's from the heart," replied Whitney. "It says everything I feel about me, children, people and about reaching that ultimate greatest love."

And Clive didn't hold back when it came to explaining how blown away he was by Houston's rendition of the song.

"When I heard what she did to that song that I was so familiar with you just know... I really went on, soon as we signed, I went on a nationally television show," said Clive

The national program was Merv Griffin and the year was 1985 when a nervous Whitney hit the stage for her first TV appearance.

"I introduced her and I said if there's going be one artist for the next generation who combines the stunning beauty of Lena Horne with the fiery gospel of Aretha Franklin, it will be Whitney Houston," Clive told Billy.

Just last week, Whitney once again mesmerized the crowd, returning to the stage to perform "I'll Always Love You" as part of tribute to Davis.

Clive considers Houston one of the greatest singers of all time so who would she like to perform a duet with?

"If you could think of the ultimate duet to do with somebody, right now. Who would you choose?" inquired Billy.

"Mmm. You know, I love Tony Bennett. I would love to do something Tony Bennett. I love Tony Bennett a lot," said Whitney.

As for Whitney's 12-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, she's a little more current.

"What does Bobbi Kristina listen to? " asked Billy.

Jessica & Ashlee Ashlee & Jessica Simpson

"Oh my God, she loves Ashlee Simpson. She likes Jojo. She loves Jojo. You know, 'Get out, right now!' [Whitney sings Jojo's song]... She loves that song,' said Whitney.

But take note Bobbi Kristina: Today's young music stars still get inspiration from your mom and dad.

"Britney Spears is doing Bobby's 'My Prerogative,'" Billy told Access.

"I heard," said Whitney.

"What are the chances that you and Bobby do, 'Oops I Did It Again?'" joked Billy.

"No chance. None whatsoever," said Whitney.

And here's what Ashlee Simpsion replied:

"Ashlee was so excited just to even hear Whitney Houston say her name," Her sister Jessica told Access Holywood.
