Letoya Luckett, formerly of Destiny Child, embarks on a solo career to fulfill her destiny of stardom. Most are anxious to see what she has to offer since fans mainly saw her as just another pretty face in a girl group. After joining another girl group and seeing her dreams fall through once again, Letoya stayed persistent in wanting a career in music. She stayed working with her vocal coach and pitched solo material to Capitol Records where she was eventually signed. Since then Letoya has had various teaser tracks released to get a feel of what fans were wanting. Her first track You Got What I Need did very well on the mixtape circuit and got great responses from fans and radio DJ's. All Eyes on Me, which was the rumored first single, features Houston's finest Paul Wall and Slim Thug on one of the most mesmerizing tracks heard in the last part of 2005. It's receiving heavy rotation in the Houston area as well as growing buzz in other markets. After what I've heard so far she has great potential to have a good career in music.

Little Brother had one of the most anticipated underground hip-hop albums of the last quarter of 2005. This North Carolina trio is already making a name for themselves for creating a movement to cleanse hip-hop of its commercial status and return it to its roots. With a melting pot of talent, their musical ingredients feature a dash of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Roots. Not to mention Little Brother adds their own unique southern flavor to stand out from other southern hip-hop groups. Fans and those music reviewers who know good hip-hop when they see it have critically acclaimed their latest release, The Minstrel Show. Their new video Quiet has been in heavy rotation on MTV2 and along with the release, the single is expected to dominate the airwaves with it's exposure semi-mainstream crowd.

A virtual unknown in the music industry, this singer/songwriter wrote one of the biggest radio hits of 2004, Mario's "Let Me Love You. Ne-Yo has been in the music industry for a while writing for some of the biggest acts such as Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and more recently Whitney Houston. Being one of the premiere writers of our time, Ne-Yo is ready to take the world by storm when he releases his album In My Own Words this February. With influences such as Prince and Marvin Gaye, Ne-Yo is ready to create a unique style with passion and energy that he will be more believeable as a musician moreso than his musical peers. Ne-Yo will be one of the good if not best R&B artists surfacing this year.

If you're not familiar with Jennifer Hudson, you should be. Jennifer was one of the standout singers on American Idol's third season. Many people penned her to win the competition, but she didn't succeed. Proving fifteen minutes of fame wasn’t going to stop her from dreaming, Jennifer dreamt the biggest dream and it came true. Jennifer will be featured in the feature film Dreamgirls alongside Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Beyonce Knowles. She will play the coveted role of Effie White, the less attractive member of the Dreamettes. Jennifer beat out some of the best singers for this role including American Idol season three winner Fantasia Barrino. If you don't remember Jennifer, after hearing her sing you will immediately want more. Although press for the film won't take place until the last quarter of the year, Jennifer also has songs she's made available for purchase on her website www.jenniferhudsonmusic.com. One song in particular is "Stand Up" a powerful ballad that gives you chills. This woman can sing and she's definitely gets a nod from myself for that awesome track. She's not to be slept on.

Shanice has been a fixture in the music business for nearly twenty years. Although she isn't popular as she should be, I applaud her for keeping it real, axing the politics of the music business, and staying true to what benefits her the most----her music. Her last album "Shanice" which surfaced in 1999 was a fan favorite and left us wanting more. She took time off to get married and raise children but she's back with her much anticipated release, Every Woman Dreams. The title track has already garnered buzz on radio and it's now a favorite among female listeners. Scheduled for a February release, Every Woman Dreams showcases Shanice's tremendous growth vocally and lyrically. I have to give her props on her more grittier style of soulful singing it's almost as if you were in church attending a good Sunday service. If you love good R&B this disc is the one to look out for when it drops.

Whutchulookinat? Will be the catch phrase Whitney will use once again when she reemerges like a phoenix out of the ashes in the last quarter of 2006. Fans got a taste of what the real Whitney was like when she appeared on husband Bobby Brown's reality show, Being Bobby Brown. Most were able to see a down-home girl living and going through things an ordinary person would go through which made her a relateable. Having faced so much adversity and public backlash for her troubles, Whitney's going to silence those critics with the voice that brought her to the forefront of the music industry over 25 years ago. The road will be tough, but in the end Whitney will prevail.

On the heels of her successful number one debut The Breakthrough, 2006 shows great promise for the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul Mary J. Blige. Be Without You has become a huge radio hit and Mary is seeking even more success for 2006 when she takes on the lead role in the yet untitled biopic of legendary jazz singer Nina Simone. From being just a girl from the ghetto to the undisputed queen, Mary J. Blige will definitely start the year with a bang just as she left 2005.

Since their return on last summer's BET Awards, The Fugees gave fans a performamce of a lifetime. Marked as one of the best moments in BET's history, this signaled the hip-hop trio into returning back to the music scene after a ten year hiatus. Putting aside differences they had with one another Pras, Wyclef, and Lauryn decided that now was the time to recreate the magic they once had while appearing on stage. Soon after the BET performance, the hot buzz single Take It Easy was released and soon after it began gaining momentum at radio. Eager fans waiting for the yet untitled project will have their dreams fulfilled when they drop sometime this year.

You've seen her get wild and let loose on the recent Destiny Fulfilled and Lovin' It tour. She's earned a Grammyc for a successful duet with rap star Nelly and she also starred in the #1 blockbuster horror flick, Freddy Vs. Jason. Kelly Rowland has so much more to offer now that Destiny's Child is on hiatus (for now). After experiencing mega success with her former group mates Kelly is ready to show the world that she isn't a one trick pony. Her follow up to 2003's Simply Deep, is much anticipated among fans and peers alone with the majority wondering if she can overcome being placed in Beyonce's shadow. I sure think so, Kelly when challenged can serve it up and perform just as well as any female entertainer out here and I don't expect any different when she will arrive the first quarter of this year. I think this second album will get her the solo respect she deserves.

Janet Jackson has been the signature icon when it comes to influences on today's women in music. Many try to mimic her edgy style but longtime fans know it can't be duplicated. We've watched her grow from little Penny from Good Times to one of the most admirable women of our time. 2006 will mark a special year for Janet Jackson as she celebrates the 20th anniversary release of her ground breaking album Control. Those who've experienced Janet stepping out from the Jackson's shadow for the first time know it was something spectacular. Along with the celebrations Janet will have a mid-year release (with a special surprise) along with a starring role in the feature film Tennessee produced by Lee Daniels (Monster's Ball) and starring Macaulay Culkin. Janet has wasted no time getting things together for a possible tour next fall with auditions getting under way in early January. What music lovers really want to know is can she overcome the backlash from the 2004 Super Bowl and triumph as Mariah Carey did in 2005? I know so! Janet has been down but she's been able to get up, get through, and get over for many years and this year won't be any different. This is Janet's most important album of her career and she's about to pull out all the stops to make sure she has a good lasting impression on fans and others who enjoy seeing what she does the best----entertain.
